Level 5 Diploma in First Response Emergency and Urgent Care

This regulated and nationally recognised prehospital care qualification is clinically endorsed by The Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care- The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and fulfils the competencies set out in the Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) skills framework at descriptor level F.  Fulfilling the competencies set out in the PHEM skills framework at descriptor level F, this fantastic qualification provides Learners with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to manage a range of Prehospital emergency situations, such as: acute conditions, life-threatening infections, end of life care, childbirth and more.

This regulated and nationally recognised qualification forms part of a progressive suite of prehospital care qualifications that lead to the QA Level 6 Diploma in Paramedic Practice (RQF) or can be used as credits for admission to various university Paramedic Science courses.

This qualification is suitable for those who are working within the ambulance (private or NHS) and event medical sectors in roles such as: Ambulance Technician, Medical Technician and Security operatives/Clinicians working within high risk workplaces. The qualification may also be suited to Learners who wish to progress onto a paramedic education pathways.

This course requires a total qualification time (TQT) of 1040 hours, including 104 hours contact time in the classroom, 750 hours on clinical placement and the rest made up through self-study to complete the assessed workbooks and completion of reflective practice logs.

On successfully completing the First Response Emergency and Urgent Care Level 5 Diploma, you will be ready to perform as a fully autonomous medic, equivalent to the level of an IHCD or AAP Technician.

All you need is your 4-week blue-light driving award, along with your Level 4 FREC and to successfully complete our partner organisation’s induction process (DBS etc.) for frontline shifts. You will be paid at at ECA rate and will have qualified mentors to guide and support your placements.


With a combination of theory & practical learning, this Ofqual regulated fifteen day course is delivered over three weekly modules at our centre in Leicestershire, which consists of lectures, group activities and guided learning.
